I met Jerry qhen I joined the German Studies Dept at Binghamton University in the early 1990s. His students and colleagues respected his vast
knowledge of the history of Egypt. For all the honors he received, he was humble, had his feet planted firmly, and possessed a good sense of humor.
He delighted in speaking German whenever we met and would astonish with his excellent memory when told stories of his time as
a soldier in Giessen.
Jerry was. as his friend Professor Morewedge put it so aptly. a "real Mensch." He shall be missed.

Professor Kadish was such a fine, caring, friendly, and genuine individual. From when I first met him years ago when I started working in the Binghamton University Post office, he always had time to say hello and chat every time our paths crossed...always with a smile on his face. An all around wonderful person!

Gerry was a real Mensch, a teacher and an intellectual. He was a special friend to faculty in the German and Russian Studies Department, with whom he shared his love for German literature--especially poetry. His service to the Department on personnel committees is legendary. He became a personal friend, who supported the humanities and faculty in the humanities, as well as students, whose global encounters with Egypt, Japan and Germany he supported.
We will miss his global fluency, his ideas, and his ability to impart his love of learning to generations of students. It has been an honor to have been his friend.
My sincere condolences to you, Jocelyn
