Gerald Kenny Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Best Funeral Services Peoria on Feb. 17, 2026.
Gerald "Jerry" Kenny, 84, born in Teaneck, NJ, passed away on February 11th, 2026 after fighting a difficult battle with his well known stubborn determination and quiet resolve. Jerry resided in various NJ towns throughout his life, including Indian Mills, Medford and Whiting before finally moving to one of his favorite places, Goodyear, AZ, where he lived for over 25 years.

Jerry was the youngest of the six Kenny children and was raised not only by his parents, but also by his devoted siblings as well as their significant others. As a child his family moved multiple times before Jerry later enlisted in the army and earned an Associate's Degree from Ocean County Community College. He spent his career working for the State of NJ before retiring in 1997 and moving to Arizona in 1998.

Early on, Jerry developed a love of cooking which remained with him throughout his life. He routinely prepared delicious meals for family and friends from one of the hundreds of recipes he saved while his favorite music played in the background. Jerry's love of cooking was matched by his love, appreciation and vast knowledge of music. If he was not in the kitchen, he could be found sitting in his favorite spot watching the news or sports while enjoying his famous martini. Unless he was traveling, most often to somewhere with a beach close by.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Eugene Kenny, his brothers "Bud" Kenny, Mal Kenny (Joy), Joe Kenny (Dorothy), and his sisters Doris Kern (Dan) and Mil Kenny, all of whom he held close throughout his life. The memories of their Irish get-togethers and shenanigans will forever be remembered and the stories told over and over again.

Jerry is survived by his lifelong partner of 37 years, Joanne Larkin, his daughter, Melissa Harned (Ian), his granddaughter Madelyn, his stepchildren Heather Sommers (Mark) and Peter Larkin (Nicole), step-grandchildren Abby, Ashlee, Aiden and Erin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

The legacy and memory of Jerry will live on through stories told, music played, and recipes that were made with his thoughtfulness and kindness which shaped his life.

A private memorial will be held for family and friends in NJ to celebrate the life of this truly wonderful man.
