Gerald "Jerry" Klingele, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 16, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Yakima, Washington on February 13, 1934, Jerry was the son of Vincent and Leah (St. George) Klingele. On March 4, 1950, he married the love of his life, Joanne Emard, and together they shared a remarkable 75 years of marriage. Their life together was blessed with eight children: Dennis (Doreen), Gary (Carol), Steve (Paula), Mike (Melissa), Vickie (Ron Urlacher), Glenn (Robyn), and Ted (Beth). Jerry was preceded in death by their infant son, Brian Paul Klingele.
Jerry is also survived by his brother Ron Klingele and was preceded in death by his brother Marvin Klingele.
Jerry dedicated his career to the seafood and frozen food industry, proudly owning and operating Deep Sea Deli and Midstate Seafoods. A favorite saying posted on the wall of his business read, "If you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean," a reflection of the strong work ethic and pride he instilled in all who worked alongside him. Known as an honest, faithful, and dependable man, Jerry's integrity as a businessman and his care for his community made him a respected and trusted figure throughout the area.
Beyond his business, Jerry was active in the Kiwanis Club, where he was especially inspired by the joy and positivity of the children with special needs who attended events. Their spirit left a lasting impression on him and fueled his dedication to giving back. He also volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts and at the local food bank, always finding ways to serve others and enrich the lives of those around him. Jerry also served on the board of the Catholic Credit Union, offering his guidance and leadership.
A loving and involved grandfather, Jerry treasured time spent with his family. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Jerry and Joanne loved to travel and explore new places together. They spent many wonderful seasons aboard their boat, the "Deli K Sea," cruising the waters of the San Juan Islands, British Columbia, and the Alaskan coast, accompanied by a close circle of friends from the Yakima Boat Club. Their sense of adventure also led them across North America in their RV, enjoying several cross-country trips from coast to coast and back again. Together they journeyed to the Panama Canal, New Zealand, Australia, and the beautiful shores of Mexico and Hawaii.
Jerry's life was marked by hard work, generosity, love, and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to family and community, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A celebration of life will be Saturday June 28th at St. John's Catholic Church in Naches WA, at 11 am.
