Gerald Patrick Malta Sr.

October 15, 1942 - March 29, 2026

Gerald Patrick Malta, lovingly known to many as "Jerry the Barber', passed away on March, 29, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Detroit, MI, Jerry was the beloved son of Vincenzo and Vincenza Malta (Pascarettri). He grew up in a close-knit family and carried those values of hard work, dedication and compassion thorughout his life.

Jerry was the devoted husband of Marcia Malta (Meldrum) for 63 wonderful years. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, community. He was proud and loving father to Gerald Malta Jr. (Nancy), Carmella Petrykowski (Joe), Elena Bauldry (Scott), and Leonora Polinger-Hyman (David).

He was a cherished grandfather to Mario Malta, Isabella Malta, Dominic Malta, Marceya Polinger-Hyman, and Joshua Hyman, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Jerry graduated from Northeastern High School and went on to attend City Barber College, where he discovered his lifelong passion for barbering. As a Master Barber and the proud owner of Golden Shears Barber Shop for over 60 years, Jerry became a true pillar of his community. Affectionately known as "Jerry the Barber," he built lasting relationships with generations of clients who valued not only his craftsmanship, but also his warmth, humor, and genuine care.

Throughout his distinguished career, Jerry gave back to his profession by teaching aspiring barbers and serving as president of the local barber association. His dedication helped shape and inspire many within the industry.

Outside of the shop, Jerry found joy on the golf course and at the bowling alley, where he shared countless memories with family and friends. He was also a longtime and proud member of the Knights of Columbus at St. John Vianney, reflecting his deep commitment to his faith and to serving others.

Jerry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 9:30 until the start of Mass 10am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 54045 Schoenherr Rd, Shelby Township, MI 48315.
