Gerald D. McLain

Gerald Dale McLain, of Endwell NY, born June 7, 1934, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Susan Evans McLain, his parents, Ivan and Bernice McLain, and brothers Roy McLain, Neale McLain, and Allan McLain. He is survived by his son, Gerald Evans McLain, and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Bradford McLain. A graduate of Harpur College, he dedicated his career to Binghamton University as an Admissions Director. Jerry leaves a legacy of being the Founding Director of the SUNY Binghamton Alumni Association, which he remained extremely involved with.
Jerry, known affectionately by friends and family as "The General", was an avid golfer, and the first Advertising Chairman of the B.C. Open. When Jerry was not out golfing with his many friends, including a foursome with whom he golfed with for decades, he could be found enjoying his wife's beautiful gardens overlooking the river, birding, watching sports, including his favorite baseball team the Boston Red Sox, and tending his vegetable garden. He always had a dog at his side, whether it was while viewing sports on TV, birds in the yard, or taking walks in the neighborhood. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating on the Susquehanna River. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict prior attending Triple Cities College, later known as Harpur College, then Binghamton University. He had a strong work ethic and was a staunch supporter of diversity, believing that anyone who wanted an education should have the opportunity to receive one. These convictions endured long after his retirement from the University, as he continued to support student success. He was a man of generosity and known for his sociable nature and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home, located at 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, on September 23, 2025 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at which time a memorial service will be performed. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry's honor may be made to Binghamton University Foundation, P.O. Box 6005, Binghamton, NY 13902-6005.
