Gerald E. Mettille, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at the age of 81, in his hometown of Morris, IL. Born on August 19, 1944, in Morris, Gerald lived a full life characterized by devotion to his family, a strong work ethic, and a love for sports and the outdoors.

Gerald proudly served his country as a Navy veteran before embarking on a dedicated career at Alumax Factory, where he worked for 25 years. His commitment to his community was further demonstrated through his nine years delivering papers for the Chicago Suntimes, a role he performed with diligence and punctuality.

Gerald's passion for sports was evident to all who knew him. In high school his nickname was "The Rabbit". A lifelong and avid fan, he cheered with gusto for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears and never missed a chance to support the local Morris and Seneca sports teams. His love for golf was more than a pastime; it was a testament to his athletic spirit and his enjoyment of a good challenge on the greens.

Above all, Gerald was a family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth (Benson) Mettille, and their loving children: Darlene (Patrick) Phillips, Diana (Duane) Thompson, Debbie (David) Kravish, Della (Joe) Coughlin, and Jerri Lynn (Brett) Herzog. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jennifer (Jordan) Walker, Patrick (Trisha) Phillips, Brent (Sarah) Thompson, Angie McKinney, Michelle Murphy, Jessica Salgado, David (Ashton) Kravish, Aaron (Justin) Kravish, Kristi (Ty) Hamilton, Keri Coughlin, Nathan Coughlin, Allison (Dustin) Kendra, Morgan (Mike) Homberg, Alec (Katie) Wills, and Ryan (Alexis) Wills, as well as his 23 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.

Gerald's memory will also be cherished by his nephew, Mark Mettille. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Emmet and Nadine Maude Mettille, his brother, Larry Mettille, and sister-in-law, Shirley (Mettille) Wagner.

Known for his daily walks around town, Gerald's presence was a familiar and comforting sight to many. His role as a father and Papa was marked by unwavering support, love, and the kind of wisdom that only comes from a life well-lived. Gerald's influence and teachings will live on in the hearts and minds of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
