Gregory G. Belt

Gregory G. Belt of Morris, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home at the age of 64. Greg was born on May 14, 1961, to Gerald and Delight Belt, and was raised in Morris graduating from Morris High School in the Class of 1979.

Greg attended Joliet Junior College and Governors State University graduating with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. Greg also earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing later in life from Governor's State University.

He was employed with the Morris Police Department for over 20 years, retiring in 2016. During his employment with Morris Police, he worked in patrol, investigations and was assigned to an undercover drug unit. Thereafter, he worked part-time for the Grundy County Sheriff's Department and also worked security at the Morris Hospital for many years. Throughout his law enforcement career, Greg was always the first officer called for back-up to assist other officers dealing with difficult situations.

Greg also served as a member on the City of Morris Police Pension Board and was a volunteer for the Morris Fire Department.

Preceding him in death was his father, Gerald, who passed in 2024, and his mother, Delight, who passed in 2017. Surviving are his brother Scott (Cindy) Belt and his sister Joy (Craig) Belt-Roselieb. Greg is also survived by many nieces and nephews, namely, Joshua Belt, of Seattle Washington, Tara (McTague) Larson of Lemont, Illinois, Jessica (McTague) Strube of Johnson City Tennessee, Jenna (Finfrock) Belt of Sycamore, Illinois, and Monica (Frank) Belt of Iowa City Iowa. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews.

No doubt the family will all miss Greg's colorful and educational stories at family holidays.

Visitation will be held at U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral home on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation. Greg will be laid to rest at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials should go to Heroes and Helpers or the 100 Club of Grundy County.
