Sharleen Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home & Aqua Cremation Center on Mar. 4, 2026.
Sharleen Smith, 75, of Minooka, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2026.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her

Sharleen was the beloved daughter of the late Rose and Richard Smith, born on August 28, 1950. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Tammy, and was deeply loved and admired by countless relatives, colleagues, and friends throughout her life.

Sharleen grew up in Chicago and Orland Park before moving to her farmhouse in Minooka. She was a 1972 graduate of Elmhurst University, where she majored in Math and was active in the choir and choral community. For more than 33 years, she taught Math at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park and continued tutoring students for the next ten years. She was an exemplary, compassionate, and devoted teacher who made a lasting impact on innumerable students.

Sharleen served 8 years as both Seward Township Clerk and Trustee. Her opinions and service were both highly valued and trusted. Her friends and fellow board members of Seward Township will sorely miss her.

Sharleen loved the Lord with all her heart and served Him faithfully in many capacities throughout her church and community, with joy and humility, every day of her life. She loved animals, especially her horse, Snowball, and her dogs, Rex and Buddy. She spent many hours volunteering at Ready, Set, Ride assisting children with special needs in their therapeutic riding program. Sharleen was also an exceptional baker who found great joy in sharing her cookies and sweet treats with friends and family. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 14, at Plattville United Methodist Church, 13025 Church Road, Yorkville, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather to honor and celebrate Sharleen's life.

Those wishing to honor Sharleen's memory may make memorial donations to Plattville United Methodist Church, her church home for 40 years, and the community of people she loved so dearly.

Though we mourn her absence, we celebrate the beautiful promise of her faith fulfilled. May our hearts be at peace as she rests in the loving arms of our Lord, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Sharleen was a dear friend to the Doetschman family. Not only, but especially, to our bother Richard, but to us all. She was always there for us with a witty, cheerful visit and some goodies, of course.

Her constant concern and presence during Dad´s (Charles) decline and hospice was truly uplifting to us all, but especially to caregivers, sister-in-law, Holly, and live-in, Vasyl.

We have in most respects lost a member of the family. God bless your soul, Sharleen.

Our sincerest condolences to Sharleen´s immediate family.
