Gerald Piatti

Iron Mountain- Gerald Piatti, 96, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.
He was born May 3, 1925, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Joseph and Erminia (Romagnoli) Piatti. Gerald was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., serving as a Corporal from August of 1943 until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. Gerald was trained to be a radar technician and participated in the occupation and defense of Okinawa Jima in the Asiatic Pacific Area.
On May 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Arla Murray. Gerald and Arla celebrated 75 years of marriage until her passing on June 1, 2021. They enjoyed 47 years together at their summer cottage on Keyes Lake and traveling for 25 years to their winter home in Bradenton, Florida. They returned home again to Iron Mountain in 2003. Gerald was employed by the Ford Motor Company and 30 years with Penny Oil Company, Iron Mountain. He was a journeyman electrician and an appliance and tv repairman.
Gerald also was a talented accordionist and great handyman. His great enjoyment was doing "projects" with his son Randy and brother, Rudy. Gerald loved and was proud of his family.
He is survived by one son, Randall (Keri Hylnad) Piatti, Kingsford, Mich.; two brothers, Edward (Margaret) Piatti, Kingsford, Mich., and Terry (Dee) Piatti, Buchanan, Mich.; six grandchildren, Josh (Gina) Adler, Tarzana, Calif., Justin (Danielle) Adler, Woodland Hills, Calif., Andrew (Michelle) Vassar, Dawsonville, Georgia, Joseph Piatti, Wausau, Wis., Jason Piatti, Kingsford, Mich., and Jennifer Bates, Pacific, Missouri; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many great family and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Arla, Gerald was preceded in death by two daughters, Jill Adler in 1974 and Lynn (Brian) Vassar in 2019; two brothers, Rudolph Piatti and Raymond Piatti; and one sister, Lorraine Ziadel.
Graveside services will be held Monday, August 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.
