Rev. Gerald Leon Ramsey, age eighty-nine, departed his earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Caromont Regional Hospital of Gastonia, North Carolina. He was born in Lancaster, SC on August 28, 1936 and served as a Methodist minister across Gaston, Lincoln, and Mecklenburg counties for over forty years.

He loved and adored his wife, Dottie, family, and friends, served his church and community, and demonstrated an authentic kindness to everyone he met. He loved music, tending to his yard and enjoying the outdoors, making others smile and laugh, and brought peace and joy wherever he went. He was an extraordinary support to his church family, a vivid storyteller, and passionate preacher who modeled a spirit of generosity and the unconditional love of Christ.

With service as a core value of his, he continued to serve in the church until the end of his life as well as through the donation of his body to continued medical research at Duke University Medical Center in hopes to continue to care for others. His remains will be held in the Duke Forest on the campus of Duke University, a place that brought him much peace where he completed his ministerial education.

May his memory inspire us all to give generously and to embrace each other with love and kindness. The family would like to extend their thanks to all who have upheld them in prayer, calls, cards, meals and loving acts.

The South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service is honored to serve the Ramsey family. Condolences may be shared online at: www.greenefuneral.com.

"Remember Me"

Don't remember me with sadness,

Don't remember me with tears,

Remember all the laughter,

We've shared throughout the years.

Now I am contented

That my life it was worthwhile,

Knowing as I passed along the way

I made somebody smile.

When you are walking down the street

And you've got me on your mind,

I'm walking in your footsteps

Only half a step behind.

So please don't be unhappy

Just because I'm out of sight,

Remember that I'm with you

Each morning, noon and night.

-Sandy Spurlock
