On April 25, 2024, we bid a heartfelt farewell to a remarkable soul who graced this world with his presence. Gerald Reed, born on February 27, 1948, was a beacon of kindness and love that touched the lives of all who were fortunate to know him. His gentle spirit radiated warmth and joy, leaving an everlasting imprint on the hearts of those around him.
Funeral Service to honor and celebrate his life will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Reed Cemetery in Tee Mamou with Deacon Gary Gaudin, leading the ceremony.

Gerald's passion for Cajun Music brought melody to the ears of many throughout the years. He found solace in raising chickens, tending to his garden, and savoring simple pleasures like a good drink. His legacy of love and compassion will continue to illuminate our paths in times of darkness.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of thirty-seven years, Madeline Reed of Basile, along with his six children: Curtis, Kirk, and Kevin Reed of Basile; Donna Reed Veillon and her husband Troy; Carla Reed Jenkins and her husband John; and Kimberly Reed Rozas and her husband Joshua—all residing in Basile. Gerald is also survived by his brothers Kenneth Duplechin and Carson Duplechin from Sulphur; sisters Bonnie Duplechin from Moss Bluff and Alice Hoffpauir from Crowley. His greatest joys in life were his ten grandchildren: Seth, Colby, Jevin, Jace, Jacob, Sarah, Moriah, Jordon, Payton, and Rylee; as well as seven great-grandchildren: Jackson, Joshua, Paisley, Sophie; Liah; Jacob "J.J."; and Ruby. He also leaves behind extended family members and numerous dear friends whose lives he touched with his gentle soul.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Elda Reed; his grandmother who was so special to him, Emedine Vasseur; grandson, Jakob Reed; brothers, Tommy Duplechin, L.J. Duplechin, Warren Vasseur and sisters, JoAnn Duplechin and Judy Duplechin
To honor Gerald’s memory, visitation will take place on Friday, April 26th  from 10am to 10pm with a continuation on Saturday, April 27th starting at 8:00 am until the start of the funeral service. On Friday at 6:00 pm a Rosary will be recited-a time for reflection and remembrance.

During this difficult time of grieving and remembrance, we find comfort in the support and love from the community. We deeply appreciate the condolences and prayers that have been offered and encourage those who wish to honor Gerald’s life to share sentiments or upload photos on this memorial page at www.ardoinfuneralhomes.com

Arrangements are under the compassionate care of Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Basile located at 1210 South Ryan, (337)432-6726.
