Ruth Reed Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sosebee Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2026.
Ruth G. Reed, age 89, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 24, 2026. She was born on February 18, 1937, and lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service to others.

Ruth was a devoted member of Mt. Gilead Methodist Church, where her deep faith was evident in the way she lived each day. Her relationship with God guided her actions, strengthened her spirit, and shaped the loving example she set for her family and community.

The matriarch of her family, Ruth was truly a mother to all. She was a loving and attentive listener, always ready with wise counsel, steady encouragement, and a comforting presence. Known for her strong will and strong mind, she carried herself with quiet determination and grace. Her family leaned on her for strength, and she never failed to provide it.Ruth found joy in the simple, meaningful things of life. She loved cooking for her family, preparing meals that brought everyone together around the table. She enjoyed gardening and took pride in canning vegetables she had grown herself. An avid lover of the outdoors, Ruth also enjoyed hunting and fishing-activities that reflected both her independence and her appreciation for nature.

For more than 20 years, Ruth worked as a hairdresser, building lasting friendships with clients who cherished not only her skill but also her warm heart and listening ear. Her chair was often a place of comfort, conversation, and connection. Ruth's legacy is one of love, resilience, faith, and devotion. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example and countless lives touched by her kindness. Though she will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the faith she lived by will continue to guide those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Deward "D.L." Reed and son, Ronnie Reed.

Ruth is survived by her children, Linda McDaniel (Travis), Gena Tatum (Gramps), Timmy Reed and Nancy Spencer (Artie) 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ann Neighbors and Kathy Holder; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at Sosebee Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Gilead Methodist Church, 889 Arnold Mill Rd., Woodstock, GA 30188.
