Gerald Resler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care - Zionsville on Jan. 4, 2026.
Gerald E. Resler of Whitestown passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025. Gerald was born on March 30, 1938 to the late Lyman and Eva (Hanes) Resler in Peru Indiana. After graduating from Chili High School in 1956, he went on to study business at International Business College and later Indiana University.
While at college, Gerald met the love of his life Martha (Lintner) Resler. They were married on May 3, 1959 in Wabash, Indiana. Eventually they relocated to Indianapolis in 1963 and then Zionsville in 2002. Gerald will be missed by his wife of 66 years Martha; two children: Brian (Amy) Resler, Elaine (Brian) Berkowitz; two grandchildren: Beth (Duke) Beckham, Dan (Ashley) Resler; and his sister, Sharon Carder; along with nieces, and other family members.
Gerald had a successful career in the financial industry at Railroadmen's Federal Savings and Loan and finished his career in banking software. During that later period, he and Martha enjoyed many travels throughout the country, with him seeing all 50 states at least twice.
Gerald had many passions throughout his life including Chicago Cubs baseball, IU Basketball, woodworking, traveling, and the Zionsville Lions Club. He spent many hours in the yard and on family vacations listening to the Cubs games on the radio. While doing this, his family enjoyed many hours of radio static. Later in life, he cherished yearly road trips with his wife and two grandchildren.
In 2003, Gerald joined the Zionsville Lions Club and served as Treasurer for 16 years. He loved participating in all activities with the club but truly enjoyed his time in Zionsville Lions Club Park spent with friends.
Visitation will be held at Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Care, 125 W. Sycamore St. Zionsville, IN, on January 16, 2026 between 12 and 2 p.m. with the Lions White Carnation Ceremony immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zionsville Lions Park, Inc. (P.O. Box 252 Zionsville, IN 46077) or Zionsville United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 547 Zionsville, IN 46077).

I will miss Gerald. As members of the Lion's bookclub, we got to know each other better. He like non-fiction, especially WWII stories. He picked our first book and I read the war story. When my turn came to pick, I choose a fiction book. Gerald said he didn't read fiction. I told him I read his book, he should give mine a try. A couple of weeks later he sent an email telling me how much he loved the book. I so appreciated his open mind and willingness to try new things.

He was a kind and sincere person. I am so blessed that he was my friend.
Thanks to Martha and family for sharing him with the Zionsville Lions Club.

Gerald was a special soul. He appreciated the loss of my WWII father. And he couldn“t have picked a better soulmate than Martha!

I've called Gerald " an ole Goat " since everyone started saying Tom Brady was the Goat. He's always laughed and would say no Gail " your the Goat". Such a great man, so kind, so humble. A great example of a Lion. Truly my friend.
