Gerald Rodgers Obituary

Gerald V. Rodgers, 80, of Butler, passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 12, 1945, in Butler, he was a son of the late Joseph Rodgers and Marie Geibel Rodgers.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he valiantly served in Vietnam.
He retired from Armco, where he had worked in North Processing for 30 years until his retirement.
Gerald was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church.
He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, singing country songs and cooking, particularly his special chili and family-requested pickled eggs.
His top priority was his family. He started each day and ended each day with an "I love you" text to each family member. He was the first one there when needed, a man who never said no and who never once put himself ahead of his family.
He loved ice cream dates, taking his family to dinner, family get-togethers and holidays. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He also loved his daily phone calls with his last surviving brother, Carl, in Alaska.
He is survived by five children, Gerald V. Rodgers Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Chicora, Sheri McKissick and her husband, Joel, of Butler, Sally Pederzolli and her husband, Andrew, of Butler, Russ McDowell, of Butler, and Terri Doss, of Butler; one brother, Carl Rodgers and his wife, Kathy, of Kenai, Alaska; and 11 grandchildren, Joel McKissick Jr., Gerald V. Rodgers III, Kaitlyn Rodgers, Nicole Bosko, Gregory Bosko, Russell McDowell, Shayna Campbell, Crystal Curran, Valerie Pederzolli, Brandy O'Neill and Ginger Slater.
He is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren, Joel McKissck III, John Holtz Jr., Ava Mae Rodgers, Gerald V. Rodgers IV, Ella and Alle Maskel, Kendall Fink, Haisley Martin, Harper Bosko, Lincoln Bosko, Taylor Waller, Kalynn Waller, Jacob Tarr, Hudson, Lucille and Lucas McDowell, Colten, Leah and Asa Slater, Chloe Schrecengost, Katie and Brooke O'Neill, Jewel Stevens and Christian Mulholland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally J. Logue Rodgers; one grandson, Dalton Schrecengost; one sister, Mary Butler; and six brothers, George, Clyde, Paul, Leo, Rege and Ed Rodgers.
RODGERS - Visitation and a Mass of Christian burial were held privately for Gerald V. Rodgers, who died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025.
Burial took place in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of MARTIN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

Gerry Jr, Sheri and Gerry III, I am sorry to hear this. You can take comfort in knowing that he is in heaven and not suffering anymore. This is a tough time I know. In some ways you feel grief and in some ways you feel relief. Both are acceptable. This is a time to reflect and appreciate the good memories and know that he is in a much better place.
