Gerald "Jerry" W. Schmeiser, age 89, of Medford, WI, passed away from a heart attack at his home on Monday, February 24, 2025. Jerry was born in Medford, WI, on December 20, 1935, to the late Frank and Rose (Neubauer) Schmeiser. He was married to Patricia Schmoldt on June 15, 1963, at the Holy Rosary Church in Medford; she passed away on September 5, 2022.
Jerry attended school at the Pine Tree School in the Town of Molitor and later served in the National Guard. He started horse logging in the Perkinstown area in his late teens and hauled milk cans to the Medford Creamery with his brother, Bob. Jerry and Pat bought a dairy farm next to his parent's farm and when asked if he would operate the grader for the Town of Molitor, he said yes and ran it for 35 years in addition to his farm work. In 1990, he sold the farm to his son, Jeff, where he continued to be actively involved with field work, calf feeding, and other chores up until the time of his death. Jerry went back to logging with his son, Jack, and when Jack purchased a sawmill, Jerry could be seen there almost every day sawing logs and helping with the millwork until he was 75. He enjoyed gardening, Farmall tractors, woodworking, snowmobiling, and fishing. Jerry and Pat loved camping and especially enjoyed taking Sunday drives, with Pat driving, to look at the trees.
He will be missed by his sons, Jeff (Laura) and Jack (Jackie); and his grandchildren, April, James (Andrea), Angela (Ryan), Ashley, Colleen, and McKensee. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose; and his wife, Patricia.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. Fr. Patrick McConnell will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory of Tomahawk is assisting the family.
