On February 11, 2026, Gerald "Jerry" Albert Simpson, age 89, of
Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Somerford House in
Frederick, Maryland. He was born on December 5, 1936, in
Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, to Martha E. and Albert L. (Hoak) Simpson, both of whom preceded him in death.
Jerry lived a life defined by service, faith, adventure, and above all, love for people. At just 17 years old, he entered the US Navy, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned more than two decades. He retired in 1976 as a Master Chief Petty Officer after completing multiple tours during the Vietnam War. A proud veteran, Jerry was awarded the Bronze Star and Navy Commendation Medal with the Combat "V" for courage under fire - an honor reflecting courage and sacrifice in service to his country. He carried his accomplishments with quiet humility, remaining deeply devoted to the men he served beside and the nation he loved.
His work took him across the world and allowed him to live in Pennsylvania, Maryland, England, Bermuda, and the Netherlands. Wherever he went, Jerry established lasting friendships. He had an easy laugh, a quick wit, and a genuine curiosity about others that made everyone feel seen and welcome.
Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria Louise (Jones) Simpson, whom he adored deeply. Their life together was full of love, travel, and shared projects, especially working side by side to improve and care for their home. Those who knew Jerry understood how devoted he was to Gloria and it brings comfort to his family to know he is now reunited with her again.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Stephen Albert Simpson. Jerry's children meant everything to him. He was endlessly proud of each of them and found his greatest joy in watching their lives unfold. Being a father was one of the roles he cherished most. He showed his love through steady presence, encouragement, humor, and an unwavering belief in his family.
Jerry loved fishing, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. He truly loved people and found happiness in conversation, laughter, and simply being together. He was member of Frederick Presbyterian Church and truly loved the opportunities to give back to the community. His faith was the foundation of his life and guided the way he treated everyone he met - with dignity, respect, and kindness.
Jerry is survived by his children and their families: Jon Michael Simpson and his wife Shelly, and their sons Spencer, Cameron, and Ethan; Susan Simpson, wife of Stephen, and their daughters Audrey Steenhoek and her husband Todd, and Emily Hansen and her husband Nathan, and granddaughter Charlotte; Mark Simpson and his wife Karen, and their sons Noah and Tyler; Sarah Enos and her husband Jon, and their children Georgia and Jackson.
He is also survived by his sisters Carol Criswell, and Marlene Moorhead, and his brother Neal Simpson, along with many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Virginia Reigard, and Martha Crye whom he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held on March 19, 2026, in
Frederick, Maryland. Specific details regarding the Memorial Services will be announced later.
Jerry's legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through service, faith, strength, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered
Gerald Simpson
