Gerald LeRoy "Gerry" Smith

Gerald "Gerry" LeRoy Smith, 82, of Westminster, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Atlee Hill Nursing Home in Westminster. Born December 16, 1939, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Walter LeRoy and Ruthetta Mae Fuhrman Smith. He was the loving husband of Barbara Oralee Smith, his wife of 58 years. Gerry earned his undergraduate degree from Frostburg State University and went on to receive his master's degree from Morgan State University. He spent his working career as a teacher for Carroll County Public Schools for over 26 years, retiring in 1988. A person of strong faith, he was passionately involved with his church, Black Rock Church of the Brethren in Glenville, PA. Gerry was a third degree Master Mason. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and was an avid sports fan. Above all, he loved the time spent with his family. Combining his love of family and sports, he especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors over the years. From softball to volleyball to baseball, he reveled in their accomplishments and was immensely proud of them all. Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters Stacey A. Widener and husband Tony of Westminster, and Amber Lani Smith of Westminster; and grandchildren Greyson Widener, Jilienne Widener, and Gabriel Lee. The family will welcome friends on Monday, September 19, 2022, from 6 to 8 pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with a masonic service beginning at 7:30 pm. Services will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 11 am at Black Rock Church of the Brethren, 3864 Glenville Rd, Glenville, PA 17329 with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at the church's cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to his church Black Rock Church of the Brethren.
