Gerald (Jerry) F. Sullivan
Gerald (Jerry) Sullivan – 87, passed away at Cornerstone Hospice on August 14, 2025. Jerry was born on December 14, 1937 in the Bronx, New York to Edward and Dorothy Sullivan (nee Liddington).
In June 1959, Jerry met Jeanette Hughes, the love of his life. They were married on December 2, 1961 and began their 60+ year journey together. Jerry was a research chemist in the printing ink industry, who developed resins for use in printing inks. He worked for Reichhold Chemicals in Sterling Forest, NY for several years.and was respected and well known in the industry. When the company moved its headquarters to Panama City, FL, Jerry left the company and started a consulting business. Some years later, Sun Chemical approached him with an offer he couldn't refuse – to go back to working in a research lab three days a week. He retired from Sun Chemical in November 2001. Jerry also spent seven years in the US Army National Guard based in Peekskill, NY and attained the rank of First Sgt.
After marrying, Jerry and Jeanette started a family and moved from the Bronx to Congers in Rockland County, NY where they lived for 37 years while raising their two daughters. Ten days after Jerry retired, he and Jeanette moved to Whiting in Manchester Township, NJ. In 2002 they made their first trip to The Villages in a 3-car caravan with friends. They rented for a month the following year and in 2004 bought a patio villa in the then new Village of Ashland. They spent the winters here for 10 years and in 2014 they became full-time Villagers settling in the Village of Buttonwood. Jerry enjoyed going on cruises, playing golf, billiards, card games, bunco and dining out.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his daughters, Susan Sullivan of the Village of Sanibel, Christine Saloio and daughter-in-law, Luci Saloio, of Ludlow, MA. He is also survived by his brother Larry Sullivan of Los Osos, CA, and Lily, his Schnauzer-Poodle who was his protector and biggest fan.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, his older brother, Edward, and his long-time best friend, Jeanette's brother, Jim Hughes.
A memorial Mass and celebration of Jerry's life will be held this Fall.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Cornerstone Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Jeanette and Susan want to acknowledge the amazing compassion and excellent care Jerry received in his home by his Cornerstone nurses Amanda, Andrea and Ashley since March. Sue and Pastor Al were also a source of comfort to both Jerry and Jeanette. His few days in the Cornerstone Hospice House were peaceful and comfortable for him.
