Reverend Gerald Leo Timmel Born: September 13, 1930; Ordained: May 26, 1956; Died: July 22, 2025
Reverend Gerald Leo Timmel, born September 13, 1930, and baptized at Saint Benedict Church, Louisville, Kentucky passed away July 22, 2025, at the age of 94. Father attended Saint Benedict for elementary school and Saint Mary's (Kentucky) for high school and college. He completed major seminary at Saint Meinrad Seminary in Saint Meinrad, Indiana and was ordained a priest on May 26, 1956. Father completed graduate studies in Biblical Spirituality at Catholic Theological Union in 1989.
Father Timmel was assigned as pastor at Saint Mildred Church, Somerset (now part of the Lexington Diocese), Saint Helen Church, Louisville, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Father served as an associate pastor at Saint Helen Church, Louisville, Saint Pius X Church, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Church of Our Lady, and Saint Ignatius Martyr Church. Father served the archdiocese as a representative on Priests' Council, Spiritual Director for the Pre-Cana Movement and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, and he was a member of the Retired Priests' Board. He also served nationally for the Catholic Engaged Encounter Movement and was an Engaged Encounter presenter. Father was also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.
Father was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Clara, and a brother, John R. He is survived by his sister, Bertha.
Visitation for Fr.Timmel is Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Mary Queen of Peace Church, located at 4005 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky from 8:00-10:00 a.m. with his funeral Mass immediately following. He will be buried with family in Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Online condolences may be shared at www.ratterman.com.
