Gerald (Gerry) P. Vaughan, age 88 died on August 10 th , 2025, at the Connecticut
Hospice in Branford. Gerry fought a 9-year battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia with
courage and grace during his many tests and treatments at Smilow Cancer Hospital.
Born on January 9th ,1937 to the late Michael Vaughan and Julia (Fogerty) Vaughan,
Gerry was a life-long Shelton resident.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Larry) Scasino and Eileen (John) Hunyadi,
both of Oxford. He was pre-deceased by his son Patrick Vaughan in 2015. Gerry is also
survived by his loving partner of more than 30 years, Phyllis Kovach, and her caring
family members. He was a beloved grandfather to Kristen (Luke) Schappler and
Michael Hunyadi of New Hampshire. The birth of his great granddaughter, Rose
Schappler, brought him much joy in his final months of life. Gerry is also survived by his
brother Thomas (MaryJane) Vaughan of Seymour and several cherished nieces and
nephews. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Donald (Betty) Vaughan and Mary
Vaughan Kezelevich.
Gerry loved his extended family, his cat, golf, tennis, football, and all genres of music. In
his younger years he enjoyed ice skating, horseback riding and working out in the yard.
He had a great sense of humor and did not like to commit to social interactions but was
the life of the party when he decided to attend. Services are private and a celebration of
life is planned for family and friends in the future.
Donations in Gerry's memory can be made to the Connecticut Hospice or the St. Jude's
