Gerald Walton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by YANDA & SON FUNERAL HOME - YUKON on Feb. 28, 2026.
Gerald Eugene Walton was born on February 20, 1936, in Homestead, Blaine County, Oklahoma, to Gerald and Helen Pitman Walton. Gerald peacefully transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home on February 26, 2026, at the age of 90.

He grew up in the Homestead community and graduated from Homestead High School in 1954. Before being drafted into the United States Army in 1958, he traveled to various states with harvest crews and experienced life outside a small community.

He reported to Fort Myer, Virginia, for training and was later stationed in Korea.

He met his future wife, Mildred Wood, in Watonga, Oklahoma, in 1957, and they were married there in May 1959. The couple moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he worked for Southwest Wheel for seven years. Gerald completed his active Army service in 1960 and promptly joined the Oklahoma National Guard that same year.

Their first daughter, Eugenia, was born in 1961, and another daughter, Dorothy, joined the family in 1963.

Gerald began working for the United States Postal Service in 1966.

A son, John, was born in 1973, completing their family.

Gerald retired from the National Guard in 1990 and from the Postal Service in 2000.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Mildred, of the home; daughters Eugenia Coffey and her husband, Jim, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Dorothy Wilkerson and her husband, Tim, of Yukon, Oklahoma; son John Walton and his wife, Emma, of Bethany, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his brother, Roy Walton, and wife, Marilyn, of Homestead, Oklahoma; his sister, Jane Spreier, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and nephews, Justin Walton and Trent Camp.

Viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2026 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon, Oklahoma, with interment following at 2:00 p.m., at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Watonga, Oklahoma.
