Gerald Gene Wray, known affectionately as Gene to his friends and family, resident of Coweta, OK, passed away on Thursday morning, April 3, 2025, at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, OK at the age of 83 years. He was born on March 1, 1942, in Chickasha, OK to Herbert Herald Wray and Pauline L. (Richey) Ogle. Gene's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and a warm sense of humor that touched all who knew him.

Gene was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Wray, with whom he shared a loving home in Coweta, OK. His legacy continues through his children, Steven Stewart of Blanchard, OK, Richard Stewart of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Liz Hyde, along with her husband Skip, of Coweta, OK. Gene's joy was multiplied by his eleven grandchildren, Tina, Lori, Kelsey, Justin, Jenna, Abbey, Dylan, Brooke, Hailey, Celia, and Ryan, as well as his six great-grandchildren, Gabe, Zayden, Axel, Schain, McKenzie, and Hadlea.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry Joe Wilkerson, his granddaughter, Stacy, and his great-granddaughter, Jazelle.

A 1960 graduate of Clayton Valley High School in Concord, California, Gene's work ethic and commitment to service were evident early on. He embarked on a career as a truck driver for two decades before dedicating 13 years as a fire and safety officer at Norman Veterans Center, from which he retired.

Gene's service to his country was a defining aspect of his life. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, enlisting on November 6, 1967, and receiving an honorable discharge on November 5, 1969. His bravery and sacrifice were recognized with a Purple Heart and a Silver Star, reflecting his valor and dedication.

Beyond his professional and military service, Gene was deeply involved in his community. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Moore Masonic Lodge in Moore, OK. His commitment to fellowship and service extended to his membership in the India Shrine and India Shrine Clowns in Oklahoma City, OK, as well as the Patriot Guard Riders.

Gene's love story with Vicki Deanne Tait began on December 17, 1978, in Norman, OK, where they were united in marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. In retirement, Gene indulged his passion for cars, traveling the country with Vicki to showcase their show cars at various car shows, sharing their love for the classic and the unique.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Maureen Wilson, and his granddaughters, Jenna Stewart and Lori Walsh and her husband Nick, for their compassionate care in his final days.

Gene's life was a beacon of strength, love, and laughter, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
