Geraldine Kay "Gerry" Doherty

1945 - 2026

POYNETTE, WI - Geraldine Kay Doherty, age 81, of Poynette, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at her residence with her loving family by her side.

Gerry was born on January 3,1945, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Anthony Williams Schaeffer and Rosella Marie (Laumer) Schaeffer. She was married to Gene Owen Doherty, on May 22, 1965, in Roxbury and together began their family.

Gerry enjoyed bringing up her children and farming with her husband Gene, horseback riding as well as four wheeling. She enjoyed spending time in Texas.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gene, children, Brian (Kate) Doherty, Debbie (Rory) Koepp, Sean (Vicki) Doherty, Bradley James (Becky) Doherty; eleven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way; her sisters Peggy O'Donnell, Rosella (Jim) Kalscheuer; brother Michael (Judy) Schaeffer and many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, brother Patrick Martin Schaeffer and father and mother-in-law James and Ellen Doherty.

Mass Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette, with Father Joji Thirumalareddy officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. A gathering will be held afterwards at Whispering Pines in Poynette. Inurnment will be private at a later date.
