Douglas Doherty Obituary

Douglas F. Doherty

Douglas F. Doherty, lovingly known as "Doug," "Dad," and "Pops," passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on August 2, 1938, Doug lived a joyful life marked by love for his family and friends, laughter, athleticism, and a positive outlook on life captured by his favorite saying: "wherever you go, there you are."

Doug was the proud "girl dad" to Anastacia Leach, Rebecca Livingston, and Jenifer Osterwalder. He was married to the love of his life, Lynne Mazur, and treasured their life together. He also deeply valued his role as stepfather to Mark Mazur, Scot Mazur, and Michelle Dorsey. He leaves behind six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom inherited at least one of his signature traits: humor, warmth, or the ability to tell a story.

Though he grew up in Toledo, Ohio, Doug loved building his life in Bowling Green with Lynne. Together, he and Lynne enjoyed attending BGSU hockey and football games, cheering from the stands and soaking in the community spirit that made Bowling Green feel like home.

A natural athlete, Doug excelled in football, basketball, track, and baseball - earning induction into Central Catholic's Athletic Hall of Fame. He even had a tryout with the Cleveland Indians - a fact he shared with modesty. His loyalty to the team never wavered.

His work ethic was equally impressive. While attending the University of Toledo full time, Doug also worked full time - all while raising three young children. That work ethic began even earlier with a childhood paper route, faithfully accompanied by his dog, Duke. Later in life, he had a dedicated career with Owens Corning Fiberglass.

Doug valued friendship deeply and greatly missed his lifelong best friend, Bob Mazur. Weekly lunches with his high school friends, after golf or bowling, were traditions he cherished.

Proud of his Irish roots, Doug treasured a trip to Ireland with his sister, Patricia McCarthy, and his late brother, Daniel Doherty. It connected him to the heritage he loved and probably confirmed that his gift for storytelling was genetic.

In honor of Doug's roots, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio.

A Celebration of Life is being planned and will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wojciechowski, Dr. Valade, the entire team at Wood County Hospital, the dedicated caregivers at WoodHaven, the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Dunn Funeral Home for their heartfelt care, kindness and compassion.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green, Ohio, at 408 W. Wooster St.
