Geraldine Evelyn Gora
September 23, 1944 – January 15, 2026
Geraldine Evelyn Gora (née Ropa), affectionately known as Gerrie, passed away on January 15, 2026, in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, at the age of 81.
Born on September 23, 1944, Gerrie grew up on the South Side of Chicago. She graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a degree in Education. In 1967, she married Joseph B. Gora, Jr., and they settled in the Chicago area, in the western suburb of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, to raise their family. In 1980, the family relocated to Bridgewater, New Jersey, where she made her home for more than 45 years. Gerrie was a devoted wife to Joseph for 27 years, until his passing in 1994.
Throughout her life, Gerrie embraced many roles. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Somerville, a real estate agent, and later a marketing manager at AT&T. In her later years, she greeted neighbors and friends from behind the counter at The Dessert Plate bakery in Somerville—always ready with a story for everyone she met. Gerrie loved to travel, relished a good dinner at her favorite restaurants, and had a special fondness for giraffes, which she admired and collected with joy.
Known for her lively personality and sparkling sense of humor, Gerrie lived a spirited life and never missed an opportunity to keep her family on their toes—always with love and a twinkle in her eye. Her Christmas Eve celebrations became a cherished tradition, bringing family together in warmth and laughter.
Gerrie gave generously of her time and spirit in the community as a proud member of the Bridgewater Woman’s Club.
Gerrie is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Jaime) and Kevin (Traci); her four beloved grandchildren, Erin, Joseph, Mollie, and Colin; and her lifelong cousin, Ed Kucik, Jr. (Rita). She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her brother, Raymond, who died shortly after birth; and her cousin Matthew Kucik.
