John Dwyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Forbes Funeral Home & Cremations - Sturgeon Bay on Mar. 20, 2026.
John Joseph Dwyer III, 79, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on March 18, 2026, in Green Bay. He was born Sept. 5, 1946, in New York, NY to John J. Dwyer Jr. and Genevieve nee Heller.

John was born and raised in New York City. After graduating from high school, he attended Marquette University in Milwaukee where he earned a degree in journalism. His first job after college was working for Wisconsin Bell. He then accepted a promotion to district manager of public relations with parent company AT&T in New Jersey and worked there for a number of years.

Following that, he returned to college to earn a bachelor's degree in marine biology, a lifelong interest, from the University of New England. He later earned a master's degree in the same field at the University of Charleston. His degrees led him to a career working for the State of South Carolina. He relocated to and retired in Door County because of his love for the water.

John was an avid fisherman and appreciated classical music. He also enjoyed the company of his feline friends.

He is survived by sons, Matthew and John Dwyer, grandchildren, one great-grandson, sister Nancy (Thomas) Check of Kewaunee, brother Thomas Dwyer of Northport, Maine; brother-in-law Randall Palmer, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kathleen Palmer and grandson Cayden Dwyer.

Graveside services will be conducted at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Brussels at a later date. Forbes Funeral Home & Cremations is serving the family.
