She married John Langschwager on May 1, 1948, in Saginaw, after meeting him on a scenic flight at his airport. She always said, "I've been up in the air ever since."
Gere was an active member of the Saginaw Country Club, the Germania Club and past president of the Saginaw Branch of the Women's National Farm and Garden Association.
Also, she enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and especially deer hunting and mushrooming. Traveling around the world was also important to Gere; she thoroughly enjoyed her trips to the Holy Land, Alaska and Cuba. The holidays were Gere's favorite time of year to share with family and friends.
Surviving Gere are her beloved husband, John; daughters, Christine Langschwager and Carla (Larry) Linvill; grandchildren, Leslie and Stewart Linvill, and Robert Higgins III; brother, Ronald (Mary Lou) Schultz; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gere's loss will leave a void which will never be filled.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter, Cindy.
After summering in Suttons Bay for many years, Gere and her husband decided in 1994 to replace the family cottage with a permanent home in the Suttons Bay community. During her years in Suttons Bay, she had a special love for her church, St. Michaels, where she served in preparation of the church sanctuary for the seasons of the church year. She had an eye for art and used her talent well in her service to St. Michaels.
Mass will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Suttons Bay. Fr. Jim Doherty will serve as celebrant. Burial will take place at the Oakwood Mausoleum in Saginaw.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Michaels Church in Suttons Bay or to Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.
The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Traverse City; www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.

I have so many great memories of Gere...at my home, at her home in Saginaw, and at her home in Suttons Bay. Don always looked forward to hunting season with his favorite cousins. John, Chrissie and Carla, I will always treasure all those memories, as I know you will.
