Geraldine Monroe

Geraldine "Gerri" Monroe, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14th, at her home in Jackson, New Jersey.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Gerri was the daughter of Lillian (Gulotta) Bila and Anthony Bila. She was a graduate of Bushwick High School, Brooklyn, NY, and went on to work for New York Telephone, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Stephen Monroe. Married for 30 years until Joseph's passing, Gerri and Joseph raised four children together.

Later, Gerri worked in receiving and sales at Sears in Middletown, New Jersey, before retiring in 2005. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary's in New Monmouth.

After many happy years in Belford, NJ she moved to Jackson, NJ for her retirement, where she found joy in time spent with friends, tending to her garden, and expressing her creativity through ceramics. Gerri will be remembered for her strength, sharp sense of humor, unforgettable cooking, and the deep love she had for her family.

She is survived by her children: Joseph Monroe (wife Karen), Bryan Monroe, Carolyn Broadhurst (husband Bill), and Daniel Monroe (wife Sheila); eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gerri's legacy lives on in the hearts of her children and all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Mother of God Church in New Monmouth at 10am Monday, September 22nd, followed by a private burial at Fairview Cemetery, Red Bank, NJ.
