Geraldine Stepule Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 12, 2018.
Geraldine "Geri" C. Stepule, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on December 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Geri was born on December 23, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Eileen Murphy Govoni and late Mario Govoni. Geri leaves behind her loving husband William Stepule, of 55 years, and two daughters: Shari Gallant of Gloucester, MA and Kristi Putorti and husband Mark of Colchester, CT, as well as six wonderful grandchildren who affectionately called her "Gammi": Carey, Matthew, Drew, Nicholas, Leah and Audra. Geri was predeceased by her brother Edward and his wife Patricia Govoni, and is survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law William and Karin Govoni, and Peter and Sue Govoni; two sisters and brothers-in-law Loretta and Dennis Twohig, and Marylou and Al Ouellette; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Eddie and Norine Stepule; and by her best friend of 61 years, Joyce Phillips. Geri's many interests included interior design, being on the cutting edge of fashion, boating, beach walks, late night chats over wine and spoiling her grandchildren. Her enthusiasm and friendliness were contagious and everyone who knew her loved her. She will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, Geri's wishes were to have donations made to The American Cancer Society in hopes that others might find a cure. Friends and family members are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Open House to honor Geri on Sunday, December 23 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at North Woods Community Clubhouse, 42 Center Court, Colchester, Connecticut, 06415.

I was very sorry to read of Geri's passing in the Rivereast on Friday. My contact with her was professional, as the mother of three patients. She was delightful, upbeat, friendly, with a great sense of humor. My thoughts are with you. A donation will be made to the American Cancer Society. With very warm regards, Jean Mamonas (formerly Szafran).

My heart is broken....a beautiful women inside and out. Geris home was filled with her special touches. She beamed about Bills talent to make or fix anything . Her face lit up with stories of the grandchildren! Family was everything to her. I was lucky enough to bring Geri and Bill to her dream home and quickly went from Realtor to Friend. Our time together was not long enough. My condolences to the Stepule family. Your angel has gone to heaven.

Bob and I knew Gerri and Bill for a little over 2 years. We live next door. Gerri was a very lively gracious lady, who was always concerned about my family. Geri wore a big smile even when she was not feeling well. She liked to talk about her grand children and how proud she was of them. I have gone out to lunch and dinner with Geri, she was full of fun and enjoyed life. We will miss her smile.

Although I know you are not suffering any longer I miss you more than any words can say. You were not only my sister but my special friend whose thoughts and many ways were a copy of mine. No one will or can ever take your place. My heart breaks but I know you are in a better place.

The world has lost a remarkable lady. I will always remember her warm smile and infectious laugh. Growing up, I would love to watch her make cakes and loved eating her egg salad sandwiches. My prayers go out to our entire family. She will be missed, but never forgotten.

Gammi.

Throughout my life you have meant so much to me. From the moment I was born you were always there; even a blizzard wouldnt stop you. You have always been my biggest supporter and showed me how to care and spread joy to others. Although the past few years have been a fight, you never gave up. I hope to have a tenth of that fighting spirit in me. There are not enough words to describe the impact you have had on my life. I love you to the moon and back and will always remember you for the caring and loving person you were. Although there were times where we butted heads you were always there to pick my spirits up. I love you so much Gammi and I hope you are resting peacefully in heaven. Please say hi to Nana for me.

P.S. I will never stop smiling when I think of the chocolate bunny and snowball episode. To this day, it remains one of my most vivid memories and will be one of my most cherished for as long as I live. You were an amazing wife, an amazing mother and most of all an amazing grandmother. I would not be where I am today if it wasnt for you. I love you.

While only having just met Gammi last Thanksgiving in 2017, I could tell that she was such a wonderful and caring person. So welcoming as I came in to her home as a stranger and was welcomed with open arms like family. While she will be severely missed by her loved ones, I know they will be strong and think fondly of her as they move forward, with funny stories and happy memories. Wishing them all the best in this difficult time.
