Gerard (Jerry) was born in New Bedford, Mass and graduated from St. Anthony's High School. Immediately, he enlisted in the Marine Corp in July, 1959. Jerry retired from the Marine Corp in July 1979. During his tenure with the Marine Corps, he received a Bronze Star for his service during the war.

After his tour in Vietnam, Jerry and his family relocated to Hawaii and then received orders to report to Twentynine Palms, California in April of 1972. The Laferriere family continues to call Twentynine Palms their home.

While a member of the Twentynine Palms community, Jerry participated in various sporting activities including softball, bowling and golf as well as coaching and supporting youth sports and activities.

His volunteer activities included being a member of the local Elks Lodge and served as the Exhaulted Ruler for two and 1/2 years.

Jerry is survived by his wife Betty Laferriere of 63 years, their daughter Celine and son Michael. The Laferrieres have a large family which includes, son and daughter-in-laws David and Rene and grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
