Gerard Joseph “Mac” McGann, 84, of Mt. Savage, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Lions Rehab Peace Health Care.

Born May 9, 1941, he was the son of the late George DeSales McGann and Dorcas Elizabeth (Lashley)McGann. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his sisters, Mary Agnes (Jack) Garmer and Lee Anna(Paul) Gaughan; sister-in-law Ester McGann; niece Mary Francis Garmer; and son-in-law, Jeffrey McKenzie.

Gerard was a graduate of Mt. Savage High School. Gerard was employed by Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. for 25 years and was a member of the fire brigade for the plant. He then went on to drive school buses for 10years, and he did security work for Shaffer Ford, Cumberland. Gerard was most proud of his service to his community and the fire service. Gerard was a life member of the Mt. Savage Volunteer Fire Dept., having served for 66 years. As a member of the Mt. Savage Fire Dept., he served as president for 15 years. He served on many committees; his proudest committees were for the purchase of the 1971 Diamond Rio fire engine and for the building of the new fire station. As a member of a volunteer fire department, it is impossible to list all the duties and capacities in which a member participates, but Gerard did as much as anyone could. Being a member of the FD allowed Gerard to serve Allegany County as the president and vice-president of the Allegany-Garrett Counties Fire and Rescue Association. Gerard also served as president and vice-president of the Allegany-Garrett County Chapter of the A. Mike Walters Christian Firefighters. He was also a delegate to the State of Maryland Firemen’s Association and a member of it’s safety committee.Gerard further served Allegany County as a 20-year member of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Dept. Fire Police, having served as vice-president.
