Gerard Arthur Sanchez was born on October 22, 1948, in Houston, Texas, to Arturo and Verda (Kerr) Sanchez. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith at a young age. Gerard graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston. He joined the U.S. Navy right after high school and served almost four years before being honorably discharged. Gerard enjoyed watching westerns, golfing, fishing, and hunting. When he was younger Gerard enjoyed working with his hands and completed several different art projects out of wood. Gerard was a connoisseur of hamburger steaks and had a chili recipe that people are still trying to figure out.

Gerard passed away the morning of Monday, December 22, 2025, in Austin, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Verda Sanchez.

Gerard is survived by his son, Shawn and wife Ambika Sanchez of Dripping Springs; three siblings, Carol A. and husband F. Eddie Marstaller of Giddings, Richard W. and wife Cynthia Sanchez of Houston, and Rebecca L. Summers of Giddings; Goddaughter, Jennifer C. Zoch Selewach and husband Michael Selewach of Lincoln; mother of his son, Gale D. Sanchez of Hemphill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
