Gerardo C. Alvarez, beloved husband and adored father and grandfather, passed away on May 6, 2025, after a prolonged illness. He was born to Maria Alvarez-Bustamante and Felice Cortez on July 16, 1936. He married Maria Clotilde Baca Alvarez on December 15, 1962. She was the love of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Maria (Tilly), his son's Jerry Alvarez, (Karen) Leroy Leyba (Veronica) and his 4 daughters, Lindy, Leyba, Mari Solorzano, Nina Kodele, and Selvia Alvarez-Chapman (Randy), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria, his father, Felice, his 3 sisters, Monse Alvarez, Victoria Cortez and Consuelo Cortez, his brother, Dario Gomez as well as his daughter, Louise Rivera, two sons, Louie Leyba and David Alvarez and his beloved grandson, Andrew Solorzano (Boo Boo).
He was known affectionately as Papa to those who held him most dearly in their hearts. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids. He also enjoyed gardening and was known for his legendary green thumb. He loved fishing, camping, traveling and reading the Bible, but most of all, he loved sharing the good news of God's kingdom.
He was a dedicated member of Jehovah's Witnesses for forty-one years.
He was kind, loving, gentle, wise and generous to a fault. He was loved by all who knew him. Daddy, you will be dearly missed, but the memories that we carry will fill our hearts until we meet again. As Jehovah has promised at Acts 24:15, " I have hope toward God which hope these men also look forward to that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."
Revelation 21:3-5, "With that, I heard a loud voice from the throne, say, "Look, the tent of God is with mankind, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them, and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Look, I am making all things new. Write because these words are faithful and true."
He was faithful to Jehovah, God until his very last breath.
