Gerhardt Glaubitz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 20, 2025.
Gerhardt G. "Jerry" Glaubitz passed away peacefully in his home of 58 years on September 18, 2025. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Lynn (Oberg); cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Lishamer and Ryan (Cassandra) Hollowell; precious great-grandchildren, Kevin and Zachary Lishamer; treasured sister, Jeanette (Glaubitz) Fortin; and many adored nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johanna (Gutewort) and Paul Glaubitz; his devoted wife, Rosemary (Orsini); brothers, Werner and Karl; and sisters, Loretta Moe, Dorothy Wolff, and Charlotte Preo. Jerry will be deeply missed by his extended family, dear friends, neighbors, companions from Jewel and Rose Garden, his BP buddies, and his Oil Pro friends. Born in 1934 in Chicago to parents who had immigrated from Germany, Jerry grew up during the Depression and learned to value and appreciate everything he had. As a teenager, he worked at Riverview and Olson Rugs before beginning his career at National Tea Company in 1953. He remained there for 25 years until its closing. He later worked at Elk Grove Village Public Library and then for the Cook County Forest Preserve, where he lovingly cared for the elk until his retirement at age 70. During his time at National, he also proudly served two years in the U.S. Army. A resident of Elk Grove Village for 61 years, Jerry was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Maple Lane." He could often be found sitting on his porch or tending to his yard, where his gift for landscaping and love of the outdoors shone through. He delighted in making people laugh with his jokes, and he will be remembered as a kindhearted man who was always willing to lend a hand. Gerhardt is now resting in eternal peace with the Lord. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Real Time Sports, 1120 W. Devon, Elk Grove Village. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers or plants, donations may be made in Jerry's name to The Salvation Army or Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF)).

Jerry was a warm and gentle soul and was always happy to help me at BP at 4am, making the coffee for the day, restocking the cups and lids. He was a hardworking man even while retired which was admirable to me. I will never forget the wonderful company he gave me and his thoughtful gestures. He knew I loved to cook and brought me some of his barely used pots that I still have and use regularly. He knew I loved to ride my bike and brought me a Bluetooth speaker for me to enjoy because he didn´t use it. His thoughtfulness, great work ethic and genuine warmth are great examples for humanity. I´m grateful to have met him and he will be missed. Thank you Jerry for all your help!

Had a wonderful time for years sitting with Jerry every weekday early morning having coffee and chatting about everything and anything...My jokes often cheered him up..once in awhile I would go visit him and sit and chat on the porch in the chairs I had got for him..I loved that he would always bring a little gift for my wife for her birthday or mother's day..and she would make goodies for him here and there...He will be missed dearly by us..

To my dearest father, I offer my eternal love and express my deepest gratitude for everything. I cherish the memories of your unwavering support, your courageous acts of heroism, and the steadfast presence you always provided in my life. Together with Mother, you were my constant source of comfort and wise guidance, always there to help me through thick and thin. You were truly an exceptional father, and I am eternally thankful for all the valuable lessons you taught me, from practical skills like car maintenance and home care to the art of nurturing plants and trees. Your positive influence has shaped me into the strong and independent person I am today. May you now rest peacefully, dear father, knowing that you were loved immensely. The world will undoubtedly never be the same without your kind heart and gentle soul. I eagerly look forward to the day when I can reunite with you and Mother in heaven. Until we meet again, know that you are forever in my heart. With unending love, your loving daughter, Lynn

I loved Gerry he was an absolute great guy!! First being introduced to him at the jewels made my heart become so attached as he always came into the jewel-osco with a huge smile on his face and had eager energy to get some donuts every Sunday.
It's sad to see him go so soon as he felt like a grandpa type of guy to me
Always know Jerry that jewels is waiting to begin serving you once again it's never non stop.
I'm so sorry for your loss though
My condolences to the whole family
