Geri Babin Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory - Ball on Jan. 11, 2026.
Geri Babin - affectionately known as Mom, Gigi, Lu, Aunt Lu or even Geri Jean, was received home on January 9, 2026, surrounded by her husband and close family members. She was born in Alexandria to Gerald Jude Wells and Norma Jean Cheves (Wells) on November 19, 1958. Geri lost both of her parents at a young age – her father passed when she was 6 and her mother passed when she was 21. Having experienced loss at such a young age, she was a powerhouse when it came to taking care of people. Even in her late sixties she had those little chicken legs moving, and pushing those she loved to make sure everyone was taken care of. Her legacy was built off of love, passion, hard work, tenderness, and absolute sass.
Her marriage with her husband Kenneth Babin was one for the books. If you ever needed an example of true love, you would find it in their home. Love is a choice and a partnership, and they chose each other every day – while playfully bickering and giggling. Kenny and Geri were a true team, and you could tell that in the way he cared for her until the end.
She was an amazing mother to Klayton Babin and Andrea Cockrell and a joyful and proud Gigi to her treasured grandson, Keegan Cockrell. Geri is also survived by her three loving sisters – Chareze Wells, Charmagne Guillory (Wells), and Jarja Carville (Wells), the special Moreau cousins on the hill, and many nieces and nephews who were blessed by her presence and unconditional love.
A woman of deep and abiding Catholic faith, Geri lived her life in close relationship with Christ and His Church. She was actively involved in parish life and found great purpose in serving others through church activities and charitable outreach. Her faith guided her actions, inspiring her generosity, humility, and compassion. Geri gave quietly and faithfully-offering her time, resources, and heart to those in need, always reflecting the love of Christ through her service. Known for her vibrant spirit, Geri was a joyful presence wherever she went. She was quick with a joke, full of personality, and gifted with a laugh that could lift an entire room. She also had a remarkable talent for cooking-using food as a way to gather family and friends, create community, and express love.
In one of her final acts of selfless love, just before Christmas, Geri played a critical role in saving the life of a dear friend-an enduring testament to her courage and compassion. Tragically, shortly thereafter, she was struck by a vehicle and passed from this life.
For more than forty years, Geri faithfully walked with the Lord, trusting in His mercy and promises. She believed firmly in the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ and lived as a witness to that faith. Today, as we commend her soul to God, we do so with confidence in the Resurrection and the promise that death is not the end, but the doorway to everlasting life.
In closing, we are not moving on but we are moving forward. If you are feeling sorrow or anger about her death, do not sit with those feelings. Take that fire that Geri had inside her and keep that legacy alive, pay it forward. Use that energy as fuel for good things, in her name.
While we wish we had more time, we have no doubt she was received personally by Jesus with the words, "Welcome home, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord."
