Gertie Corey Obituary
A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 3:30 PM in Juniper Chapel Original FWB Church Cemetery in Vanceboro, 655 Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 PM until the funeral, at the cemetery.
A native of Beaufort County, Mrs. Corey was born to the late Hubert and Fronnie Haddock Wiggins on September 6, 1934. She was a graduate of Greenville Beauty School and worked as a hairstylist for more than 15 years. She and her husband made their home in Chocowinity and later moved to Vanceboro.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Corey was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ernest McRoy "Chick" Corey in 2020, brothers, Ervin Wiggins, Bobby Gene Wiggins and Rayvon Wiggins.
She is survived by Daughters, Lila Corey (Marc Blackman) and Vicky Corey, all of Youngsville, NC; Grandchildren, Corey Waters (Ray Wilson), Kent Waters, Teddy Clemons (Amanda), Preston Clemons, and Brooks Clemons (Jessica). Great-grandchildren, Vanessa Wilson, Trystan Clemons, Marlow Clemons and Pressley Clemons; Sisters, Ida Gaskins, Neva Worthington, and Hilda Boyd.
