Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 25, 1935, Trudye went to college in Miami and then studied Psychology in Minneapolis where she earned her master’s degree as a marriage counselor. She was very involved in her church St. Stephens in Edina, MN, singing in the choir, serving as the program leader for Youth and Alter Guild.
Trudye was a devoted friend, dedicated member, and president of the Flower and Garden Club at Fort Snelling Officer’s club, where she hosted many fabulous balls and veteran’s charity events like hog roast and golf scrambles. She had a green thumb and a love for plants that she carried to her own yard. Trudye loved to find a bargain and often gifted things to people in need. She also had a soft spot for all four-legged friends, especially Samoyed dogs.
Trudye was a fiercely loyal partner, wife, mother, nana, sister and friend who touched the lives of so many with her kindness and unwavering love and dedication. She had the best laugh with a cackle, she had a wicked humor that was mischievous and was adventurous trying new things and going new places.
Trudye is survived by life partner Douglas Tersteeg, sister Virgina Branch, daughter Adrienne (Bremner) Haley (Jeff); grandchildren William Bremner-Winston (Katie), Patrick Kelly (Lauren), Jackson Kelly (Jason Ohotto) and Kevin Kelly (Ione) and great grandchildren Charlotte, Liam, Mason and Finley. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Gertrude (Jones) Culpepper, brothers John and Charles Culpepper and daughter Gertrude Celeste Garvey.
Trudye was truly one of a kind, who unconditionally and unabashedly loved her family and will be deeply missed. A special appreciation is given to Douglas who loved her, cared for her and stayed by her side until the very end.
Private services will be held. Details of a life celebration will be shared later. In lieu of flowers, Charitable donations can be made in her name to the MN Arboretum.
May she rest in peace.
