Gertrude G. Byrne, 89, of Springfield, PA passed away suddenly on September 7th, 2025

Gert was born in Philadelphia on November 2, 1935 to Mary Roach and Maurice J. Gill.

She attended and graduated from St. Leonard's Academy in Philadelphia. She was trained at Fitzgerald Mercy School of Nursing and was a nurse and nursing supervisor at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby for over 45 years.

After retirement, Gert and her husband became full-time parents of, and joyfully raised, their infant grandson, Patrick.

She was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Springfield and a member of the Over 50 Club. She enjoyed the companionship of devoted friends and also the activities at Rose Tree Place in Media where she was a resident in recent years.

Gert was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Patrick J. Byrne, and her beloved grandson, Patrick J. Byrne, III; also pre-deceased by her sister, Frances. She is survived by her son, Patrick J. Byrne, Jr., her sister-in-law, Catherine Byrne, and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Monday, September 15, at 9:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfield PA, followed by Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church. Interment at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are requested to St. Francis of Assisi Parish or St. Francis of Assisi School Rebuilding Fund, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfield, PA 19064.
