Gilbert Andrew Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Funeral Home - Fountain Hill on Jan. 8, 2025.
Gilbert E. "Gib" Andrew, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Elmer and Hertha (Ihle) Andrew.
Gib's journey began in the tight-knit community of Fountain Hill, where he was born and later established his own family. His life was a testament to love and dedication, as he was happily married to his beloved wife, Helen (Murphy) Andrew, for over 70 years until her passing in 2020. Together, they built a legacy of love that continued to flourish through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Robert "Gibby" Andrew, and wife Kathy of Fountain Hill, Tom Andrew, and wife Gail Markulin of Arlington, VA; his daughter, Denise Karpy, and husband Ray of Chocowinity, NC. Gib was the proud patriarch of 7 grandchildren and 9 1/2 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life. His family circle also included his sister-in-law, Catherine Andrew, of Saylorsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Gib was predeceased by his brother, Robert Andrew, and his brother and sister-in-law, Wilson and Hilda Andrew.
Gib graduated from Fountain Hill High School, where he was president of his class, in 1943. Shortly after, he served his country with honor in World War II. After military service, he attended Moravian College, graduating in 1951. He dedicated 30 years to his career as an insurance agent with Prudential, retiring at 58. His work ethic and commitment to his clients were hallmarks of his professional life, earning him the respect and trust of those he served.
An avid outdoorsman, Gib cherished the moments he spent in the embrace of nature. His love for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with the world around him and sharing experiences with friends and family. He was also a member of the Monocacy Field and Stream Assoc., where he enjoyed camaraderie and conservation efforts.
Gib was also a member of The Fountain Hill Hose Co., The Golden Hillers, The Fountain Hill American Legion Post 406 and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Above all, Gib's heart belonged to his family. He was a beacon of strength, support, and wisdom for his loved ones. His stories, laughter, and guidance will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Services: A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday January 13, 2025 at Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway Fountain Hill, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Fountain Hill Cemetery. A memory tribute may be made at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

As a kid growing up in Fountain Hill, you always knew the families. The Andrews were a great friendly family who always were nice to the kids in Fountain Hill. Whenever I walk on Stanley I could name almost every family´s house. The house on the corner will always be the Andrew´s house. So sorry for the loss of another caring "Hiller". lol to the family. becky
