Gilbert “Bert” Rex Casper passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Bert was born July 24, 1943 in Coalville, Utah to Rex and Beth Wilde Casper. He married Janice Titensor Russell, the love of his life, on February 14, 1975. Bert graduated from South Summit High School in 1961.
He enlisted in the Army in 1963. Bert was deployed to Vietnam in 1967 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant E6. While in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for outstanding leadership, professionalism, dedication and hard work. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 34 years of dedicated service. In June 2022, Bert was honored to be selected for the Utah Honor Flight.
Bert spent the majority of his life in the rodeo arena as a contestant and a judge. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Association where he served as President and Bull Riding Director. He also served on the Board of Directors for the North American Rodeo Commission and as stock coordinator for many years. He judged high school, college, amateur, team rodeos and Professional Rodeos with honesty and integrity. Bert was a family man, and his greatest joy was supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their activities. He showed love and support to his family even in his final days.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janice Casper, son, Casey, daughters, Heidi Hadlock-Evans, and Jaime (Ira) Slagowski. He has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce Rockhill and nephew, Layne Rockhill.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Plain City 2nd Ward, 2952 North 4200 West, Plain City, Utah. Friends and relatives may visit with family on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South in Roy, Utah and Monday, 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church.
Interment, Plain City Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff at the George E. Whalen Veteran’s Home, as well as the nurses and staff at Bristol Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided to Dad.
