Gilbert Wright Brown, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. Gilbert was born in Fountain, North Carolina and moved to Goldsboro when he was a small child. He has been a resident of Goldsboro ever since. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mozingo Brown; parents, Samuel Rufus Brown and Johnnie Smith Brown; and brother, Rufus Wilson Brown.
He is survived by two sons, Steve Wright Brown and wife, Teresa of Burnsville and Samuel Craig Brown and wife, Angela of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Samuel Tyler Brown, Gessica Brown Garner and husband, Stephen, Candice Nicole Brown Gray and husband, Chad, Christopher Wright Brown and wife, Carrie, and Hannah Victoria Brown; two step-grandchildren, Bridgett Bryant and Baron Bryant and wife, Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Hudson Bradley Garner, Emma Garner, Beau Brown, Bishop Brown, Rowan Bryant, Aileen Brown and Wrenley Brown. Gilbert is also survived by his twin brother, Elbert Brown and nephew, Johnnie Brown.
Gilbert retired from E.D. Du Pont with 30 years of service and also worked with Gene Taylor Chevrolet for 6 years. He also served his country in the North Carolina National Guard for 6 years. Gilbert was an active member of First Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon and on several committees. He was also an active member of 'The Troubleshooters.'
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 12:00 – 1:00p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
We would like to give a very special thank you to Barbara Sturm for the love and care she provided for Gilbert. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the memorial fund at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
