McBee, S.C.
Gilbert H. Horton, 83, of McBee, S.C., passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 31, 2025.
Gilbert was the son of Dan and Flora Horton of McBee, SC. He attended Angelus School for his elementary years and later graduated from McBee High School. As a youth, Gilbert worked at Mr. Grady’s grocery store in McBee. He then went on to work at Sonoco of Hartsville and completed his work history at Carolina Power and Light as a planner.
Gilbert was an avid go cart enthusiast, where he and his sons won many races across the southeast. He was never happier than when he was working on a go cart motor or was at one of the many tracks they raced on. He made many lifelong friends during his time racing go carts and enjoyed their camaraderie. Gilbert loved to tinker in his shop on any number of projects. He loved old cars and loved to travel. He enjoyed traveling to new places or just riding along the backroads. He was also a member of Beauford Baptist church.
Surviving family is his wife, Gail Terry, and two sons, Todd (Dana) of McBee, and Terry of Hartsville, stepson, Jamie (Cassie) Terry of Patrick, and stepdaughter, Lisa Purser of Lancaster. He had three grandchildren, Drake (Keri), Alex (Ansley) and Susanna, as well as a grandson of the heart, Cash Terry. He also had two great grandchildren, Langston and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Gene Horton and sister, Irene Hargett.
