Gilbert E. Link, a beloved guidance counselor, coach, and educator, passed away peacefully on August 30 2024, at the age of 76. Born on March 14, 1948, in the Bronx, New York to his parents Robert and Beatrice Link. Gilbert dedicated his life to shaping the minds and futures of countless students throughout his career.
He was a prominent guidance counselor in Copiague, New York, where his deep commitment to his students' well-being and success touched many lives. Gilbert was a well-respected member in his field, proudly sharing his wealth of knowledge as a Western Suffolk Counselor Association leader until his final days. His dedication to supporting students extended to higher education as he served as an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College, fostering the next generation of learners with the same care and compassion that characterized his approach to counseling.
Gilbert was not only known for his professional contributions but also his vibrant personality. He had a profound love for basketball and swimming, activities he enjoyed during both his personal and professional life. His passion for these sports was well-known among friends and family, and they provided him with joy and a sense of connection to the community.
Gilbert is survived by his cherished wife, Rita J. Link, alongside his five beloved children: Alison Link, Douglas Link, Steven Link, Jonathan Link, and Melissa Link. He was a proud grandfather to Hunter, Chase, Sage, Adar, Yonah, Hersh, Mila, and Blake who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Zolot and Janice Keiser, who shared treasured memories and experiences with him.
A visitation to honor Gilbert’s life will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, NY 11729. A celebration of life service will be held that same day from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Shiva will be observed at 526 Goodrich Ave North Babylon, NY 11703 Wednesday, September 4, 2024 and Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Gilbert E. Link leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to fostering growth in others. His spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
