Gilbert Murray Obituary
Gilbert A. Murray, 86, of Mt. Carmel, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, surrounded by his family at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born at the former Shamokin State Hospital on October 29, 1939, he was the son of the late William Patrick and Catherine (O’Brien) Murray.
On May 6, 1961 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church he married Ursula Joan (Schoppy) Murray who preceded him in death on March 21, 2013.
Gilbert had been employed for Clarks Poultry for over twenty years and then had worked for the Branch Trucking Company until his retirement.
He attended Shamokin schools.
Gilbert was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. He was an avid Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles football fan.
He is survived by two sons, three daughters, three grandchildren and one sister.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Religious services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00 am with Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki officiating at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. Interment will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beaverdale. A viewing will be held Friday from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the funeral home.
