Gilbert Rust Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home - Amsterdam on Jan. 4, 2024.
Obituary of Gilbert James Rust
Gilbert Rust ("Gil", "Gibby"), age 89 passed away on January 1,2024 at home with his loving family by his side, after a courageous seven year battle with cancer.
Gil was born to Hazel and Otto Rust on November 20,1934 in Amsterdam NY, where he spent most of his life. Eventually he and his devoted wife of 68 years packed up and moved to their home in the Adirondacks where he lived until his passing.
Gil enjoyed hunting, fishing and Friday night get togethers with his buddies. He also spent a considerable amount of time cheering (and cursing) his beloved Boston Red Sox and Washington Redskins.
Forever the patriot, Gil served proudly in the US Army and later joined the National Guards. After leaving the military, Gil had a successful career holding the title of Vice President of Mohawk Sportswear in Amsterdam for many years. Gil also had a successful career as a manager for Johnston Knit until his retirement.
Gil is survived by his loving wife Genevieve of Piseco NY, daughter Debbie(Steve) Bogner of New Hartford NY, daughter Donna(Frank) of Gloversville NY, grandchildren Nicole, Melissa, Justin, Ciara, Michael, Timothy, David, and several great grandchildren.
Gil is predeceased by his son David, twin brother Carl, sisters Mimi, Ollie and Delia.
As per Gil's wishes, a private family gathering will be held at a later date for the spreading of his ashes in the Adirondacks.

Where do we begin? We built our camp on Haskell rd. across the street from Gil and Jen. We first met him in 2011 , and it has been a privilege to get to know him and become friends. Gil will always have a special place in our hearts for making us feel so welcome. He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. We´ve grown to love the area because of the stories he told us. The neighborhood will never be the same without him , he will be deeply missed. Our condolences to his family and friends. Rest In Peace our friend, we will miss you.
