Giuseppe Orfino Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 30, 2025.
Giuseppe Orfino, 87, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, with the comfort of his partner, Eileen Geary, by his side at their home in Osterville on Cape Cod.

He was born to Michele and Rosalia Orfino on October 28, 1937, in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy. Giuseppe worked as a youth in the town's dominant olive and almond industry. As the country struggled to come back from World War II, he charted his own course along with his siblings and immigrated to White Plains, New York in 1958 aboard the Independence. It was an aptly named ship, because Giuseppe was determined to work for himself in America and he became the longtime owner of Orfino's Landscaping Company in Westchester County.

He raised three children with Maureen and was part of a large and loving Italian family, making his own wine and making his own way with gusto. Sunday and holiday gatherings were spent enjoying the company and cuisine of Luca and Nietta, Emilia and Romeo, Antonio and Rocca, Gennaro and Angelina, Rosina and Pasquale and his many nieces and nephews. Giuseppe enjoyed a blissful routine in the last few decades of life that would take him and Eileen from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in the winter to Cape Cod in the summer -- riding the warm ocean breeze until the last winds blew.

Giuseppe is survived by his loving partner of 37 years, Eileen Geary; his beloved children Rosalisa Orfino-Newman (Mark), Penelope Orfino (Steve Mitchell), Joseph, and Eileen's daughter Sarah; grandchildren Rachel Gordon, Liam Mitchell, and Elaina; Eileen's grandchildren Caitlin, Sean and Elizabeth; and his brothers Antonio and Luca, and sister Rosina. He was predeceased by sister Emilia, brother Gennaro and Eileen's son Sean. A Memorial will be held in April at the Marian Shrine, Salesians of St. John Bosco, 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, NY 10980
