Funeral services for Gladys Calloway, 92, of Wills Point, TX, is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Family will accept friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at White Rose Cemetery.
Gladys passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, in Tyler.
Gladys Laverne Calloway was born on January 14, 1929 at Wills Point, Texas to late Alice Marie Edwards and Byron Clyde Calloway. Her brothers, Owen E. Calloway and Ernest E. "Sonny" Fitzgerald, predeceased her.
Gladys graduated from Canton High School in 1946. In 1956 she graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. She received her first Masters in Education from Texas Wesleyan College. She received her second Masters in Religious Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975.
Gladys worked for Grace Baptist Church of Fort Worth for 26 years as secretary and the children's director. In 1983 she moved back to Wills Point to help care for her mother. She began teaching First grade in Wills Point I.S.D.in 1983 and retired in 1993 after 10 years.
Gladys was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Fort Worth until she moved back to Wills Point and joined the First Baptist Church in Wills Point.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Tina Steelman of Wills Point; granddaughter, Violet Steelman of Wills Point; nephews, Scott Fitzgerald and Bryan Fitzgerald, both of Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Wills Point, 125 E James St., Wills Point, TX 75169-2119 or Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701-6623.
