Gladys Granberry, passed away on July 17, 2025.
Gladys Mae Granberry passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born in Henderson, Texas to Lizzie B. and Claude Henson. She lived in Texas until moving her family to Kansas City in 1963. Gladys worked for Dr. and Mrs. John Growdon for over 25 years until retiring in 1996. Gladys was also a well-known caterer in the Kansas City area and abroad. She often traveled out of town to cater events. Gladys loved to cook and feed people. She eventually retired from catering in 1998.
Gladys was a member of the Shining Star Chapter of the American Business Women's Association for over 20 years. She chaired several events and won many awards including Women of the Year, The Star Award, Leadership and Perfect Attendance Awards to name a few.
Gladys loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. If the weather was nice, you would always find her on her front porch picking greens, shelling peas, or just twiddling her thumbs, and humming a tune. Her front porch was her happy place.
Gladys was preceded in death by her mother and father; daughter, Rubye Pegues; daughter, Linda McNeely; grandson, Steffen Brown; grandson, George Taylor; and great-granddaughter, Alaysia Nelson.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Doris Tolbert; son, George Brown Jr. (Gwen); sisters, Billye Tolbert (Edward); and Wanda Bradley, brother, Douglas Henson; her aunt Irene Colemen; niece, Angela Potter; grandchildren, Keith; LaChelle; LaTonya; Catrice; Sheri; Roshonda; Sheronda; and Carmella (Eric); great-grandchildren, Drake; Rico; Ashley; Mikeila; Khalen; Ameila; Heaven; Soraja; Erica; Olivia; Israel; Messiah; Naomi; and Ariah; one great great-grandchild Malaysia; a host of other relatives; church family; and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Swope Parkway Church of Christ 5620 Swope Parkway KCMO 64130. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon). at the Church. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels. Condolences may be shared on our website lawrenceajones.com
