Gladys Grieger Obituary

Gladys Grieger, 104, of St. Joseph passed away on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at Caretel Inns of Lakeland.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael Roth officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church – St. Joseph, or the St. Joseph Public Library. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Gladys was born on June 26, 1921, in St. Joseph to Samuel and Christina (Metmier) Grieger. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1937 and continued her education at Northern Illinois University where she earned a master's degree in education. Following college, Gladys would begin her career as a teacher. She taught at Glencoe schools in Glencoe, Ill., as well as Child Development and Growth at Northwestern University in Chicago until her retirement. Gladys was a proud sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma, was a board member of the St. Joseph Public Library and enjoyed spending time reading and gardening.

Gladys is survived by her nieces: Catherine Pflaumer, Mary Lou Miller and Joan Grieger; and nephew, Richard Grieger.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel and Christina; brothers: Walter Grieger, Harold Grieger, and Edwin Grieger and sister, Agnes Schultz.
