Gladys Alma Hentges of Centertown, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025. She was born on January 28, 1946, in California, Missouri, the daughter of the late Edwin Edward Herman and Bernadine Katherine (Eickholz) Herman.
A proud 1964 graduate of California High School, Gladys married James Francis Hentges on July 3, 1965, at the Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Missouri.
In her earlier years, Gladys worked at California Manufacturing Company, where she helped produce jackets. She later worked at Interco as an order picker and eventually as a data entry operator for the State of Missouri.
Gladys had a deep love for needlework and creativity. She enjoyed sewing dresses for her sisters and nieces, embroidering keepsakes for her grandchildren, and crocheting with care and love. Her talents were gifts she shared generously with her family.
She was also a lover of country music and enjoyed watching the Daniel O'Donnell television show. Her faith was strong, and she often remarked how beautifully Jesus made the world.
She is survived by her two children, Jeff of the home and Lisa Bax (Paul) of Columbia; and her two grandchildren, Riley and Brynli Bax, both of Columbia. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Benne (Jerry) of St. Martin's, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters, Mildred Walters (Brooks), Virginia Taube (Anthony), and Edna Herman; and her brother Jim Herman (Nelda).
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Martin Catholic Church.
Family and friends will be received at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin followed by a Christian Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jason Doke as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in St. Martins Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St., Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com
